So I have a problem.  I have a bad case of wanderlust.  When I came back from Turkey two months ago, I immediately got a new piece of Tumi luggage (I already have 2 Tumi’s), an adapter set from Henri Bendel along with a travel organizer to carry all my cosmetic and bath essentials.  To top off the list I HAD to buy a YSL Cabas bag in the blue degrade lizard to function as my carry on bag.  I won’t tell you how much this cost me.  I bought all these “essentials” because I didn’t like my old stuff, and I want to be ready for my next big trip which will be to Petra.  You would think that I’m flying next week or something but my trip is scheduled for October.  As I’m planning for Petra, I’m also thinking about all the other trips that will be scheduled in the coming months.  I have to go to D.C. to visit my mom in August but I decided that trips in the U.S. will not count.  I will go to the Philippines in January and I think I’ll go to Prague in the spring.  After that I don’t know, although I have a list in my head.

I wondered how my wanderlust started.  I think it was when I first came to the U.S. from Seoul.  I could not speak a word of English, and I was eight years old.  All the kids stared at me in school to the point where the teacher had to yell at the class to pay attention to the chalkboard instead of staring at me.  EVERYTHING was new which meant that I had to learn, adapt, improvise, and discover.  I must say that all these things are intoxicating to me.  When you travel to a new place, especially on foreign ground, you have to figure things out as you go along.  I love the not knowing.  I love discovering that there is so much more to the world than what exists in my comfort zone.  I love that people are different, that there are new foods to try, music to explore, and new and different…everything!

I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself until I travel again.  Perhaps I can squeeze another trip in between Petra and the Philippines…
