I bought my plane ticket to go visit my mom in D.C. I am flying out on September 1st for the Labor Day weekend. For some reason, I want to do do the tourist thing by going to the Washington Monument. I also want to visit the National Gallery of Art, a place I used to go often to find peace, solace, and comfort. I just realized that I don’t have any pictures of D.C. as I left there about 20 years ago. Also, my love of taking pictures is only a recent phenomenon. As I write this, I am reminded of my dad who used to annoy the hell out of me as a kid when he would take a bazillion pictures wherever we went. Of course, I didn’t get it back then. I would love for him to annoy me now, as an adult, but he is long gone. I must remember to look at all the black and white photos he took when visiting my mom, and I must remember to bring some with me back to Chicago.
As I tried to take pictures of the planes flying past my window today from the Air and Water Show, I got too impatient and just gave up. But now, as I sit in my beautiful white leather chair facing the window, I saw a hot pink sailboat that made my day! Never having seen a hot pink sailboat before, I will eagerly anticipate the next sighting of her. I guess I don’t have to travel to an exotic locale to see surprises. I can’t wait for the next surprise…in Chicago.
