Thanksgiving Turkey

I am on a flight right now to Michigan.  I just took off from O’Hare airport to see my brother and his family for Thanksgiving.  The view outside my window seat is beautiful, and I never get tired of airplane take offs or landings at the beginning of all my trips.  They both make me feel ecstatic as I envision a fantastic new journey that lies ahead.  Except that this trip is not that exciting as I’m flying into Detroit, after all.  Nothing against my brother, but instead of flying for a turkey meal, I would rather be flying TO Turkey.  Then I thought about the word “turkey” and how I only think of Turkey, the country, and not turkey, the bird.  I wondered why turkey, the bird, is named “turkey” so I decided to consult my second best friend, Google.  And guess what?  When turkey, the bird, was introduced in Europe, it was imported through Turkey, the country, and that is why the bird is named turkey!  I feel better now because ever since I returned from my travel to Turkey, I ALWAYS think of the country when I see a menu at lunch at all sandwich shops that serve turkey.  Crazy, right?  But you will completely understand and will be on my side when you visit the country yourself.  Now I will thoroughly enjoy a great Thanksgiving meal of turkey and not feel strange thinking about Turkey!

Just took off for some turkey…                                        But thinking about Turkey…
