Sleepless in Turkey

After checking into my hotel and unpacking, I knew I had to email the Turkish doctor.  I HAD to say good bye in the proper way, whatever proper means for two strangers who met on the plane who will probably never see each other again.  I felt good when I turned off my laptop as it was closure.  I finally looked forward to a good night’s rest, especially after the jet lag.

Then, the LOUDEST VOICES EVER woke me up in my slumber.  It came immediately from outside my window, and I didn’t have a clue as to what it was.  It sounded like a megaphone was put right up to my ears!  Startled, I looked outside but there was no one.  It turns out that the call to prayer of Muslims are on loudspeakers, which was immediately outside my window. Of course, my windows were open.   I knew about the prayers of five times a day but I never imagined it would be SO loud!  Since it woke me up twice as I went to bed really early,  I didn’t sleep well.  I was determined, though, that I would get up early as to not waste a minute of my time in Turkey.  After all, I was only visiting for 5 days and 6 nights.
