Up in the Air

I like to write when I’m in the air, flying, as I am doing now.  I can think more clearly as well as concentrate, and the fact that I’m physically going somewhere but sitting still somehow makes me feel ubercool.  This is yet another reason why I love to travel.

As I’m on my way back to Chicago, I’m already thinking about my next trip, of course.  On December 31st I will be ringing in the New Year in Toronto.  I will be meeting my girlfriend from D.C., and we will surely exhaust ourselves by shopping, eating, walking, sightseeing, staying up until dawn, and then eating some more.  I am reminded of our last trip together in Miami where we shared the most hilarious moment together.  After shopping and riding in a cab with several bags in our hands, the cabbie, about half way back to our hotel, started slowing down the car on the highway.  My friend and I saw smoke coming out of the hood of the car, and the cabbie yelled for us to get out.  When the cab stopped, the driver hauled his ass SO fast out of the cab and kept yelling for us to get out as he noticed that my friend and I were taking too long.  We actually got out (without thinking since the cabbie was SO adamant for our hurried exit) but realized we forgot our shopping bags (Hello? I had shoes in the bags!) so we went back to the flaming car to get them.  Now, how ridiculous was this?  Picture two girls going back to a flaming car to get their newly bought shoes and clothes, risking their lives, and then running away from the car, looking back at the car in flames, looking at each other in disbelief, and then laughing so hard that they’re bent over, in tears.  You see how great travel is, right?  You get to experience unexpected moments of joy and laughter where you treasure the memories forever.  So here’s to travel, more travel, and the wonder it beholds…

              Just left Michigan’s lights….                      And returned to Chicago’s lights…
