Soles and Souls of Barcelona

So I lost (in addition to my luggage) almost two whole days of sightseeing as I was distraught and couldn’t really function without my belongings.  I didn’t know whether to buy everything I needed or just wait.  I was very angry, was jet lagged, and felt lost and disoriented without all my comforts.  The fact that I felt powerless because American Airlines and British Air couldn’t give me ANY information at all, made me so angry that I couldn’t see straight.  I decided I needed a little retail therapy.  Besides, this was the only time in my life that I could say that I really NEEDED something to buy.  Although I didn’t know it at the time of my hotel booking, I ended up staying at the most fashionable side of Barcelona–Passeig de Gracia.  The minute I walk out of my hotel there is YSL, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Chanel, as well as every major high-end shop you can think of.  However, I was more interested in the local shops as this is one of the major reasons shopping while traveling is so much fun.  All the high-end retailors are the same in every country whereas boutiques are more unique, offering the local tastes, styles, and flair.  After buying 2 pairs of boots (how will I carry this back home?) and some tops, I got a text message saying my luggage arrived!  So after getting my luggage and then unpacking, I took the most luxurious shower of my life.  How amazing it was to have my own products to use!  And how great it was to have fresh clothes on!  After having some seafood paella in Barceloneta, I was ready to retire early so I could pack in all my sightseeing in three days.

Although I had doubts about traveling abroad because of my luggage fiasco, my wanderlust was restored after walking around this beautiful city of Barcelona.  They say that every city has a soul, and the soul of Barcelona is full of life, energy, and beauty.  I can’t wait to explore…
